The Canadian Gay Open (CGO), the largest GLTA World Tour-sanctioned Canadian tournament, is presented by the Toronto Lesbian and Gay Tennis Association (TLGTA). The CGO 2012 will be the 19th edition of this annual tournament, which is played over three days on the Victoria day long weekend, with all finals played on Monday. Traditionally, it has been held in Toronto at the Mayfair Sports Clubs.
Social events: The CGO also includes a draw party (players meet and greet) on the Friday evening, a banquet on the Sunday evening and a post-banquet get-together. All these social events are held at local venues in Toronto.
Charities: A raffle is organized during the banquet to give away prizes donated by tournament supporters. In 2011, the beneficiary of the raffle proceeds was the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line. Previous years’ beneficiaries have included the AIDS Committee of Toronto and the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives. Our intention this year is donating to an anti-bullying organization.
About Toronto: Toronto is one of the most gay-friendly and welcoming cities in the world with oodles of sights to see, places to go, and world class cuisine to try. And the Torontonians, especially the tennis playing ones, embody everything that Canada is best known for; friendliness, openness, and a sincere welcoming spirit. Also it’s legal for same sex couples to marry, so you never know what might happen to you on or off the court.
