GLTA Executive Board of Directors Elections 2012

The GLTA has a Board of Directors that is made up of 7 individuals who are elected by our member clubs for a two year term. To ensure continuity within the Board structure, only half of the Board positions are up for election/reelection each year. Our current Board members must step down and run for reelection, if they wish. Our member clubs will elect/reelect three Board positions in 2012. The vacant posts in 2012 are Treasurer and 2 At-Large board member positions. As an organization we actively encourage people to put themselves forward for election, and are seeking people that have a willingness to serve the LGBT tennis community.

Each GLTA Board member has a variety of responsibilities that include serving as a liaison for a number of GLTA sanctioned tournaments to ensure compliance with GLTA sanctioning requirements. Also, additional specific tasks e.g. processing player rankings- Rankings work involves approximately 20+ hours of work each week. Other board responsibilities include responding to players and other organization enquiries. Our Commissioner will respond to 1000 plus emails a month in addition to their other duties. Our Web and Facebook communication teams are critical key members of our Board, and require extensive hours of work each week. . There is no remuneration, no free entries to tournaments or travel expenses to attend tournaments. Limited travel expenses are reimbursed to attend 2 mandatory Board meetings each year.

You can contact any board member to get a feel for the role and responsibilities. Your first point of contact is Commissioner Dan Merrithew who will send you a nomination form (commissioner@glta.net) . You will be required to complete this and submit a short manifesto. We will accept self-nominations starting on October 1, 2012, and all nominations must be submitted to the GLTA Commissioner by midnight EST on October 31, 2012. Each GLTA sanctioned club has one vote, and the club vote should reflect the views of their entire local membership. Our member clubs will vote from November 1, 2012 to November 30, 2012 and the 2013 GLTA Executive Board of Directors will be announced in early December after an independent audit by two non- GLTA Board members.
