GLTA Clubs Draws/Rankings Champions Race Newsletters

Overview

This competition is open to all male and female players who compete in men's draws in a minimum of three (3) GLTA tournaments (in singles AND/OR doubles) during the 2008 calendar year. Women who play in both men's AND women's draws will be eligible to compete in the men's Champions Race competition. One tournament must be played outside your home, state, province or country. Of course, the more tournaments you play the better your chances are of accumulating points.

Date of Competition

The 2008 Champions Race Final is scheduled to take place on Friday, January 30th through Sunday, February 1st, 2009, in Los Angeles, California.

Cost of competition

The GLTA reserves the right to charge a fee of up to $75 per Champions Race entrant.

Eligibility - Singles

The top 8 players in the Men's Open, A, B, C and D singles divisions will be invited to participate first. In the event that one of these players cannot participate, the next player(s) in line will be invited to play until there are 8 players in each division.

The division that you ENDED the 2007 season in will be the division you are vying for in the 2008 Champions Race; however if your minimum level (based on the GLTA point system) is lower than the level you choose to play in most of your tournaments for the year, your eligibility will be based on the level actually played. Those players who are NEW to the tour this year will be eligible to compete based on the division they play most of their tournaments in this year (2008). Players will accumulate points based on the single matches won in each tournament and will receive bonus points for winning semi-final and final singles matches. These players and those who compete in overseas tournaments (Europeans playing in North America and vice versa) will receive bonus points as outlined below. Players will NOT receive points for advancing due to a walkover or default unless the match is in the semi final or final round. And this year you will receive double points for winning matches in any of the four Masters Series tournaments which take place in Miami (Jan), San Francisco (May), New York (July), and Zurich (August).

Eligibility - Doubles

Male and female players will be competing as individual doubles players so it is not necessary to play with the same partner to qualify for this competition. The top 8 players in the Men's Open, A, B, C and D doubles will be invited to participate first. In the event that one of these players cannot participate, the next player(s) in line will be invited to play until there are 8 in each division.

2. Players who compete in overseas tournaments will receive double points for every match won
3. Players who compete in Masters Series Tournaments will receive double points for every match won
4. Players in round robin divisions will receive single points for each win and the winner will receive 10 points in lieu of one point for one match won
5. Only semi finalists and finalists receive regular points in the event of walkover or default
