A Message from the GLTA Board
Regarding the NEW GLTA Ranking System
On
January 1, 2008, we introduced the new GLTA Ranking
System. We are pleased with the new system, but we
understand that players will need to get used to the new
rules. The effect of most of the changes will only be
evaluated after several tournaments are completed.
We
also noticed that the combining of the men/women doubles
and
mixed doubles ranking into one general doubles ranking
caused an unbalanced ranking in many cases, especially
for the female players. Therefore, the Executive Board
has decided to “unsplit” the doubles and mixed doubles
rankings again and maintain separate rankings for
each. As with our new singles and doubles ranking
system, we will base the mixed doubles ranking on the
last 5 tournaments played.
In
previous years we recommended to use the doubles rating
to determine the mixed eligibility, however this will
change. If a player has a GLTA mixed ranking, we will
use that ranking in the determination of level
eligibility and seeding. If a player does not have a
mixed ranking, the doubles ranking will be used.
The
minimum division for doubles or mixed doubles can never
be further away than 1 division. For example: a player
may play mixed A and doubles B, but no doubles C.
